Wildlife Board trip to SAMRAC Port Elizabeth
Annual Inter-School Debate Festival
On the 14 March 2015, the 1st and 2nd Team debaters were invited to attend the Annual Inter-Schools' Debate Festival at Alexander Road High School.
The Muir teams were amongst fifty one other debating teams throughout the Eastern Cape. The 1st Team consisted of Sive Marola, Jude Naude, Aphiwe Zinto and Khanya Sokutu was the reserve. The 2nd Team consisted of Jared Laas, Richard Niemand and Nicholas Else.
As the u14A's kicked off their rugby match against Cillie, both debating teams were already busy with their first debate against Kingswood. The motion was, “This House Believes That (THBT) nuclear energy is the only solution for South Africa.” The Muir College teams opposed the motion, both teams won with Jude Naude and Richard Niemand being chosen as overall best speakers in their debates.
The motion for the second debate was “THBT the speaker in Parliament should not hold any party political affiliation.” In the 1st Team’s debate, Muir proposed and Queens College opposed the motion. In the 2nd Team debate, Muir proposed and Diocesan School for Girls (DSG) opposed the motion. Unfortunately both teams lost their debates.
The festival was a great platform for the debaters to learn more about debating, experience debating against E.P debating teams.

Last week our Matric students went to the Working World Exhibition at
the NMB Stadium. The men of Muir were able to ask questions from some of
the universities South Africa has to offer. The whole process will help
them make career decisions. Apart from the learning aspect some of our
boys were fortunate enough to meet the Mayor of Port Elizabeth, Mr
Benson Fihla. We were very proud to receive feedback from other school
and stall owners about the Muir Boys manners and discipline.
